Colfax County Probate Court Handles Probate In Colfax County, New Mexico
The Colfax County Probate Court is your local go to for probate matters. It’s where you admit original wills to informal probates and appoint a special administrator. It’s where you appoint a successor personal representative and many other probate-related matters. The Colfax County Probate Court allows for walk-ins and also takes appointments.
Keep in mind, the probate judge and the clerk are both prohibited from giving legal advice by law. They can’t even give legal advice on cases filed in their own court. You must see a lawyer for legal advice. The Colfax County Probate Court isn’t incredibly busy, so its office hours are restricted to Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. until noon.

The current probate judge for Colfax County Probate Court is Judge Roy E. Ackerman. The court can be found at 230 N. 3rd St. in Raton. To reach the court by phone, just call (575) 445-9565. You can pick up a 37 page packet of forms and instructions by visiting the court in person. The cost is just $5.00 for the packet. Once the probate paperwork is filled out, there is a $30.00 filing fee.
