Colfax County Road Department | Get A Colfax County Encroachment Permit
County road and bridge infrastructure is maintained and improved by Colfax County Road Department. The road department has about a dozen full-time employees all overseen by the Road Superintendent. In total, the county maintains 570.3 miles of roads. The county uses a variety of equipment including six motor graders, two backhoes and two loaders.
An encroachment permit can grant another entity permission to perform the within the county’s right-of-way. It’s not an easement and it’s not a property right. They’re issued for temporary and long term placements in the county’s right of way. These permits are issued by Colfax County Road Department. So, let’s say you want to be in the county’s right of way near the road for work on driveways, grading, swale installation, geotechnical investigations, culvert installation, or fence removal or replacement.
