You’ll see the high mountains of the Moreno Valley right by the gorgeous sparkling lake. Eagle Nest Lake is an alpine lake. It’s located in a glacial valley on the slopes of Wheeler Peak. Wheeler Peak is New Mexico’s highest mountain. The park is home to an abundance of wildlife including elk, deer, turkeys and bears.
Fishing At Eagle Nest Lake
Like fishing? Anglers frequent the park and fish from land or from a boat. In the winter, they fish upon the ice. Eagle Nest Lake is stocked with both trout and kokanee salmon regularly. Trout species include rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and brown trout. Anglers also enjoy fishing smallmouth bass, yellow perch, catfish, sunfish and northern pike, among others.
Eagle Nest Lake State Park Recreation
The park sits at just over 8,000 feet in elevation so it is a nice cool retreat during the hot summer. Not just anglers enjoy the park, obviously. The park provides recreation and relaxation to hikers, campers and wildlife enthusiasts too.
Eagle Nest Lake State Park Location
Eagle Nest Lake State Park is located outside Eagle Nest and about 30 miles east of Taos. The state park is found on the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway.
