Victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or other crimes can keep their actual addresses secret with the New Mexico Confidential Address Program (CAP). This keeps residential locations of people private. So, if you are in the process of moving to New Mexico suffered from domestic violence, assault or fear for your safety or the safety of a family member, you may be eligible for CAP. Likewise, residents from New Mexico in need of this protection may also be eligible.

Here’s How CAP works

Participants in the New Mexico Confidential Address Program receive fake mailing addresses. The fake mailing address is maintained by the Office of the New Mexico Secretary of State (NMSOS). The NMSOS gets the mail for the victims and forwards the mail to the victim’s actual, private address. This way, many fewer people ever have access to the victim’s actual address. This also helps make sure that victims are at a lower risk of being tracked from using public records.
