Snow Removal Rules In The Town Of Taos
There’s sure to be a lot more snow than last year this year. That much is already clear. If you’re new to the Town of Taos or about to move in, you should know the snow removal rules for the town.
When you’re shoveling or plowing snow, you can’t put snow or ice against a fire hydrant, on a sidewalk, on a roadway, on a street or on a highway. You can’t do it directly or even indirectly. Now, you should know, if the road crew hasn’t been through after a fresh storm, you can put the snow on the roadway provided that your snow doesn’t make the total depth more than three inches.
If a person does put snow where it’s not allowed, the city will remove it or have it removed and then bill the person or entity for the costs plus an extra ten percent fine and keep a record of the offense. Plus, the person responsible would be subject to a petty misdemeanor too and could end up paying up to another $100 in fines. Each time the person does it, it counts as a new offense. So, shoveling or plowing snow into the roadway or onto someone’s sidewalk can get expensive. It’s definitely better to know, and that’s why we’re sharing this info!
