Voting In New Mexico- What If There’s A Snag?

What happens if you go to vote tomorrow and something goes wrong? Is that it? Are you out your chance to vote in what is turning out to be the biggest midterm election in decades? Not necessarily. For example, you don’t have to just accept it if your name doesn’t appear on the roster at your polling place. If you’re certain you have the right polling location in New Mexico, you can always fill out a provisional ballot.

Here are situations where voters in New Mexico can fill out provisional ballots:

• Your name does not appear on the roster
• You are a first time voter who registered by mail and you don’t have the required ID.

What if your voter status is inactive?

If your voter status is inactive, you can still vote in tomorrow’s general election. As soon as you vote again, your status will again become active. So if you check the status of your registration and it says inactive, don’t let that stop you from voting!
