What Is The Newer Termite Bait System?

The old barrier system of termite extermination isn’t as effective as it used to be because chemicals used in the older system aren’t allowed to be as powerful as they once were, according to exterminators. A newer termite bait system was developed, in part, to address this shortcoming of the barrier system. Bait systems are made of perforated plastic tubes that are about two inches in diameter. They have a screw on top and are inserted around your house every eight or so feet. This means that no drilling into your foundation is required. Everything takes place outside.

How Does The Termite Bait System Work?

The bait tubes get loaded with some sticks of wood. They get checked every few months to see if the termites have started to feed. If they have started to feed, the wood is replaced with a chemical that affects the termites molting process. Worker termites carry this chemical back to their underground nest. Within months, the entire nest is wiped out.

Cost Of A Termite Bait System

The cost is considerably cheaper than the older method, amazingly enough. For one, there is less involved and also less chemicals are used. Still, because the bait systems are monitored for years, the overall cost can be high. It’s just that the initial costs are substantially lower than the barrier systems. New bait station system installs costs around $3 – $4 a linear feet whereas liquid termiticide applications cost around $5-$7 per linear feet.
